A noteworthy diabetes awareness seminar took place in Rawalakot, graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Iqbal Choudhry, the Honourable Minister of IT. He was joined by luminaries such as the Chairman of the Kashmir Education Foundation (KEF), Mr. M.R. Khan of the Digital Diabetes Foundation, and Khalid Rafique, the Director General of the AJK-IT Board. Distinguished participants also included Dr. Sajid Khan, an endocrinologist and CEO of the Digital Diabetes Foundation from New York, and Ahsan Rasheed Khan, a foundational board member of the Digital Diabetes Foundation.
The central theme emphasized the urgency to address diabetes in Azad Jammu & Kashmir, with particular focus on Poonch district. It's here that they've inaugurated a state-of-the-art digital diabetes clinic. Equipped with telemedicine and remote patient management capabilities, this clinic is a beacon of hope for residents striving to manage their glucose levels and reduce HbA1c concentrations. The overarching message was clear: raising awareness among the general populace, especially the youth, about adopting a healthier lifestyle is crucial to curbing the spread of diabetes in AJK. To further this cause, the clinic in Rawalakot offers complimentary diabetes medication and glucose meters to its visiting patients."
The Digital Diabetes Foundation (digitaldiabetesfoundation.org) recently orchestrated a commendable initiative spanning three cities in Azad Jammu & Kashmir: Rawalakot, Bagh, and Forward Kahuta. These cities were chosen as sites for a series of five diabetes awareness and care camps. The turnout was significant, with over 800 patients benefiting from free consultations offered by a visiting endocrinologist from New York. Alongside these consultations, patients were equipped with complimentary diabetes medication and glucometers to aid them in their journey towards managing this condition.
These commendable camps would not have been possible without the generous humanitarian support of our esteemed partner, M/s Sami Pharmaceuticals, headquartered in Karachi but with a commendable presence in Islamabad and the Azad Jammu & Kashmir region. Their altruistic contribution entailed the donation of essential diabetes medications, bolstering our effort to provide comprehensive care. This massive endeavor did not go unnoticed. Notable figures from the region, including the Honorable Commissioner of Rawalakot, Mr. Choudhry Mohammad Farid, made it a point to visit and witness the impactful work being done, especially at the Rawalakot camp. Orchestrating such an expansive event required impeccable teamwork. The clinic team, including Shazeb, Rawal Nisar, Areeb, Prof. Munsha, Ahsan Khan (Founding board member), and several other dedicated individuals, ensured the seamless organization and successful execution of these camps.
Beyond consultation, there was a notable focus on diagnosis and management. The Foundation set up a mobile lab in each city, providing free HbA1c tests to deserving patients, further reinforcing our holistic approach to diabetes care. The Digital Diabetes Foundation operates with a firm belief: through consistent awareness seminars and dedicated diabetes camps led by top-tier endocrinologists, the tide of the diabetes epidemic in Azad Jammu & Kashmir can be not only stemmed but gradually reversed. These camps epitomise our commitment to this mission and the well-being of the people in this region.
